Griffiths GAMSAT Preparation Review
Similar to my Gold Standard review, which you can see on the reviews tab, this is more of an impressions. I only got to see one of the books, GAMSAT Decoded (not the blueprints), but you can usually see what the standard of the other books will be from one of them. Griffiths GAMSAT, I believe, is a UK based preparation company and most comparable to Gold Standard. I only say this because they both have been made by a doctor aimed to sell and provide courses.
Griffiths books seemed to be filled with tips such as general strategies such as attitude, question recognition, process of elimination, intelligent guessing etc. Each section is broken down into what questions may appear, skills tested , followed by brief theory and strategy to answer questions. These strategies are personal to the author and since the GAMSAT is not a "cookie cutter" test, it may not apply for everyone. The tips, I would say, are the fundamentals to doing well in the GAMSAT so it is definitely useful but not anything special. Ask any med students about their tips and you'll probably have all the ones listed in the books. Now, I've heard the content hasn't changed much from year to year and we know that the GAMSAT doesn't change much at all so it would be safe (and preferable) to buy an older cheaper edition.
The practice questions in the book are really good, I thought the S1 and S2 questions were comparable to Des O'Neill's level of accuracy. It's section 3 questions varied in difficulty and i'd say those where comparable to Gold's. The section 3 questions have that issue of the stereotypical multiple choice layout of: 1 question clearly wrong, 3 questions looking similar, 2 questions looking extremely similar and obviously the right answer is between those two. Although some GAMSAT questions are like this not all are, the Griffiths S3 questions cannot be used as an accurate indication for performance in ACER's test. There weren't as many questions as i'd like and you'd definitely will have to find questions elsewhere to get sufficient practice.
Unfortunately that's as much as I feel comfortable saying without making assumptions. Overall I'd say very similar value of content to Gold's, maybe even a bit better since its cheaper. Have a look on the reviews tab to see the my overall ranking of the text books I've reviewed, it will give you a much better gauge on the quality of the preparation material. If the blueprints are similar in standard to the book I saw, I can make the assumption that its theory would be better than that found in Gold's. Be sure to check out that review.
